Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s aide on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has revealed that the country’s wealth has been overestimated, characterizing Nigeria as a “very poor” nation.
Bayo Onanuga said this during an interview on Arise Television that was monitored by DAILY POST on Monday.
Onanuga emphasized that Nigeria remains a very poor country, citing its low per capita income in comparison to other African nations.
“Nigeria is a very very poor country, to be honest. I think our wealth is overestimated,” he said.
Speaking on the state of Nigeria’s economy and Tinubu’s efforts to ensure stability, the Bayo said, “I think we have a poor estimation of the wealth of the country, we are a very poor country.”
He stated that by eliminating petrol subsidies and standardizing the exchange rate, the administration aims to alleviate financial pressure, as per his perspective.
Moreover, Onanuga refuted assertions that Tinubu is still indebted to its federal employees regarding emoluments.
“The office of the AGF has said there is a challenge with the platform being used to disburse the salaries.
“According to a briefing I got this morning, yes, salaries were delayed, but all federal workers have been paid,” he added.
