“Until Nigeria No Longer Happens to Anyone, Nigeria Will Happen to All of Us” — Aisha Yesufu Warns Following Death of ARISE TV Anchor

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has issued a stark warning following the death of ARISE TV anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.

In a widely shared tweet, Yesufu wrote: “Until Nigeria no longer happens to anyone, it will happen to all of us. We are all potential victims.” On the recurring tragedies across the nation”.

“Yesterday’s victims were once survivors, today’s victims were yesterday’s survivors, and tomorrow’s victims will be today’s survivors. Who is next?”she added

Aisha’s post resonated deeply because Maduagwu herself had tweeted on August 14: “Pray from the depth of my heart that Nigeria never happens to me or anyone I care about.” Her words, now resurfaced, have been seen as a tragic premonition, highlighting the ongoing insecurity in the country.

The 29-year-old anchor was tragically killed during an armed robbery in Abuja. Her death has sent shockwaves across social media and the media community.

Aisha’s  warning has sparked widespread discussion online, as Nigerians reflect on the persistent violence and question what measures are being taken to protect citizens.

A social media user @tchyzo recounted their own experience with insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory: “One can’t even sleep with two eyes closed in FCT. Three years ago when we were attacked by over 10 armed robbers, I realised we are all sitting ducks. Only one cop was in the entire Games Village station. The rest were likely guarding the big boys in Asokoro. We are on our own.”

Aisha’s  message, coupled with testimonies like @tchyzo’s, underscores the fear, grief, and frustration that continue to follow preventable tragedies.
