With Over 60% Viable Land Uncultivated, Nigeria Has all it Takes to Feed It’s Citizens—Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi has expressed his belief in Nigeria’s ability to feed her citizens.

Obi disclosed this during his North America Thank You Tour which he concluded Sunday with an Open Forum Nigerian diaspora in Atlanta, Georgia.

He noted that Nigeria has over 60% uncultivated lands which when cultivated can feed all Nigerians with added advantage of helping to curb inflation, encourage export and foreign exchange.

Obi said ,”Quite frankly we’re not supposed to have food programme, we have over 60% of viable land uncultivated so all we need is to cultivate these lands and doing that is not a very difficult thing. All we keep saying is that we need contribution which is externally.

“We have the expertise and we have the land and we have all it takes to do that and it’s critical for us because if we get it right, first, we can feed our people, it will help us drive down our inflation which the biggest negative impact is food inflation.

“It will help us in manufacturing, in export which will gain more revenue especially foreign exchange which will help us save our currency so it’s a critical thing.

“And all that I can say is that we need external expertise, the rest we have it,”he added.
