Four healthcare workers have been sentenced to prison after being caught on camera physically and emotionally abusing an elderly patient, according to a report by The BBC on Thursday.
Ame Tunkara and Morountaro Adefila were found guilty of ill-treatment and willful neglect, receiving a four-month prison sentence on December 8.
Similarly, Danny Ohen and Bridget Aideyan faced the same charges and were sentenced to six months and four months in prison, respectively, on November 14.
The abuse came to light in February 2020 when the family of the elderly woman, who had vascular dementia and was unable to speak, noticed bruising on her arm. Concerned for her well-being, they installed a hidden camera, capturing footage over a four-day period.

The recorded evidence revealed disturbing scenes of the elderly woman being handled roughly, struck with a pillow, and treated without dignity and respect.
Tragically, the woman passed away in October, prompting a police official to express regret, stating, “She should not have spent any of her remaining years suffering such ill-treatment.”
The incident underscores the importance of vigilance and measures to protect vulnerable individuals in healthcare settings.
