Damilola Matuluko, a Nigerian lady, was tragically killed by a metro bus in downtown Houston on Friday morning, May 31.
ABC News reported that the incident occurred near Rusk and Smith shortly before 7:40 a.m. According to the METRO Police Department, Damilola, a city worker, was in the crosswalk with the right of way when she was struck.
Investigations revealed that the bus, operated by First Transit, turned onto Rusk as the light turned green, fatally hitting her.
The contract driver of the bus is cooperating with investigators. There were two passengers on the bus at the time, but no other injuries were reported.
Damilola Matuluko has been a member of the city’s HR Operations Employee Relations team since 2023.
COH HR Director Jane Cheeks stated, “Although Damilola had only been with the HR Department for a short time, she had become a beloved and impactful team member.
She will be sincerely missed by her colleagues in the City of Houston.”
Her friends and family have expressed their grief on social media, mourning her untimely death.
