A Nigerian man, consumed by jealousy, brutally killed his wife using their son’s skateboard in a calculated and heartless assault.

Olubunmi Abodunde, 48 years old, was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in a United Kingdom court for this heinous crime.

Suspecting his wife of infidelity, he unleashed a vicious attack that ended her life.

According to reports from Mail Online, Abodunde struck his wife repeatedly with the skateboard while police hesitated to intervene, waiting for authorization from their superiors.

Despite being prohibited from the residence due to prior domestic violence incidents, he managed to gain entry and commit this atrocious act.

When law enforcement finally entered the premises after 25 agonizing minutes, they found Taiwo Abodunde, aged 41, with fatal head injuries.

The force of the assault was so severe that even a pathologist couldn’t determine the exact number of blows she endured.

During his trial, Abodunde remained largely silent, offering only “no comment” responses during police questioning. Judge Martyn Levett of Ipswich Crown Court condemned his actions as ferocious, ruthless, cold-blooded, callous, and savage.

Consequently, Abodunde received a life sentence with a minimum term of 17 years in prison.

But the judge added: ‘The simple fact is that you strangled your wife and then beat her to death and used one of the children’s skateboards to batter her skull.’

Abodunde harbored persistent jealousy and suspicion throughout his marriage, frequently accusing his wife of infidelity. The court learned that the couple, along with their three children, had immigrated to the UK from Nigeria in 2022.

During the trial, it was revealed that his wife suffered severe injuries during an assault in Newmarket, Suffolk, on November 28, 2023. A post-mortem examination revealed the extent of the brutality inflicted upon Taiwo: she had been throttled into unconsciousness, her ribs broken from stomping, and then ultimately killed with a skateboard, which was left damaged from the force of the blows.

Prosecutor Simon Spence KC informed the court that the sounds heard by officers likely indicated Abodunde’s continued attack on his wife even after she had lost consciousness or died.

Apart from disputes concerning suspected affairs, there were also arguments regarding financial matters.

The suspect, who had been under investigation by Suffolk Police for domestic abuse, opted to plead guilty to murder after the jury was sworn in.

Judge Martyn Levett of Ipswich Crown Court conveyed to him that the only feasible punishment was life imprisonment. Suffolk Constabulary reported the case to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, which initiated investigations into three officers involved.

Abiodun had a documented history of jealousy and suspicion, along with prior allegations of domestic violence before his wife’s tragic death.

He was apprehended on April 27 the previous year when police responded to a disturbance at the couple’s residence in Newmarket, Suffolk, and found Mrs. Abodunde with a split lip. Subsequently, he was released on police bail with conditions that he refrain from returning to the marital home or contacting his wife. #skateboard
