Ikem, a Nigerian medical student who studied in the Republic of the Philippines, was murdered brutally on October 22. According to our research, a group of Chinese beat him to death while tying his hands and covering his mouth.
The inhuman murder of Ikem, 30 years old, has sparked countless reactions on the internet ever since. Parallel Facts takes a dive into the occurrence of this heartbreaking incident.
From our findings through the friend of Ikem, whose name is Michael Adegboyega Ojuola, following his post on October 22, “A friend of mine, a Nigerian medical student named Ikem studying in the Republic of the Philippines, was brutally murdered by a group of Chinese. They tied his hands up, covered his mouth, and he was beaten blue-black until he gave up the ghost.” Michael’s post reads:
Ikem, also called Emmanuel Chukwuneke, lived in Bacoor, Cavite, in the Philippines, and the horrendous incident happened in a place known as the Silver Sea Residence located at Orlacson St., Mandaue City. We understand the incident kicked in on October 19 during Ikem’s NFT Project job, which included 29 Nigerians and 9 Filipinos, with one Filipino supervisor and one Nigerian supervisor.
An argument cooked up between the deceased’s girlfriend (who is a Filipino) and the head of the country, who is Chinese, whose name wasn’t disclosed to us. The argument,as we understand it, was a result of a job commission Ikem’s girlfriend requested from the company but was refutably denied.
However, following the order from the Chinese woman who wanted Ikem’s girlfriend to leave for dating Ikem, she refused and argued to get her commission before leaving the company. Ikem joined in fighting for his girlfriend.
They agreed to leave, but with the commission, which the Chinese head stubbornly said she would pay by the end of the month of October.
We are aware that this resulted in a heated exchange of words, and the Chinese woman thought Ikem had been a bother. Two vehicles arrived there, and Ikem walked Ikem to a building, forcefully dragging the girlfriend to the exit gate, and Ikem off to an unknown location. The girlfriend, as a result of this, screamed, which made other Nigerians and Filipinos rush out, but was put off by a cover-up story from the Chinese woman and the men in the vehicles that he was taken to the police station.
Following this, the Chinese woman called in the police, and everyone was taken to the police station for statements. At this point, Ikem realized I wasn’t at the police station where the Chinese woman claimed to have been. Surprisingly, the Mandaue city police dropped Ikem off a short while later, tied up like luggage and with his mouth taped. Some men from the vehicles appeared to have beat him blue-black.
We also understand that Ikem was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment to have his dying breath taken. Sadly, Ikem left to join his ancestor while he was transported to the hospital.
Ikem’s Friday made it clear to us that, in accordance with the supervisor, the two police officers who the Chinese woman called knew more than what they said because they were also aware that Ikem wasn’t in the police station, as the Chinese woman in the company claimed. He said they were right there when the Chinese woman said Ikem was in the police station, and the two police officers (whose names weren’t revealed) didn’t refute this claim; in fact, Ikem was dropped and not met in the police station.
Since the incident, Michael disclosed that the Mandaue City Police Division has identified four of the six Chinese nationals who are alleged perpetrators of the murder. We understand that pictures of these four Chinese have been sent to local airports to avoid any attempt at escaping.
Additionally, Michael confirmed to Parallel Facts that a Nigerian named Chuks in the Philippines had paid for an autopsy. He alleged that the Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines’ office, H.E. Folakemi Ibidunni Akinleye, refused to pay for the autopsy of Ikem as she claimed not to have 37K Philippine pesos (531,301 naira) for the autopsy.
Ikem’s unfortunate demise has been the talk of the town in the Philippines, with multiple media houses reporting the story.
