Nigerian Navy Foils Illegal Bunkering Operation in Lagos

In a recent operation, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT successfully thwarted an illegal bunkering operation within the Igboelejo community area of Lagos State. The operation was carried out in response to intelligence received through the state-of-the-art Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment.

The patrol team seized a boat containing 205 drums of a substance suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit and other products. However, the perpetrators abandoned the boat and fled upon sighting the patrol team.

The Nigerian Navy Authority (NNA) has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and necessary actions will be taken to ensure appropriate handling of the incident. “We remain committed to ensuring safety in our maritime domain,” said a representative from the NNA.

“This operation underscores our unwavering commitment under the leadership of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla.”

While no arrests have been made yet, the NNA assures that they are doing everything possible to apprehend those responsible. The public has been urged to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
