The 2023 Trace Live Awards, held in Kigali, Rwanda, were a night to remember as it celebrated the diverse talent and contributions of African artists in the music industry. The event showcased a range of musical genres, from Afrobeat to Afropop, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the continent.
Nigerian music superstars Rema and Davido emerged as the big winners of the night. Rema, also known as Divine Ikubor, won two awards: the Song of the Year award for his global hit, ‘Calm Down’ and Best Global African Artist. Davido also won two awards—the Best Male Artist and Best Collaboration categories—with his song “Unavailable,” with Musa Keys.
Other notable winners include Burna Boy, who won the Album of the Year Award with his project “Love Damini”, and Yemi Alade, who won in the Best Video category. A lifetime achievement award was given to Mr. Eazi (Nigeria) and 2Face (Nigeria).
The Trace Live Awards 2023 were introduced by the platform Trace to honor outstanding Afro-influenced musicians across the African continent. The awards ceremony aimed to recognize and celebrate the diverse talent and contributions of African artists in the music industry.
