Tech entrepreneur Alex Onyia has sharply criticized what he sees as a dangerous mindset among Nigerians, one that tolerates oppression by rooting for the powerful rather than resisting them.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Onyia said the major difference between Nigeria and other developing countries lies in the mindset of its citizens.

“The difference between Nigeria and Nepal is that most Nigerians aspire to be like their oppressors, so they don’t see anything wrong. However, they’ll pray to tap into their grace.” he said.
He was referencing recent events in Nepal, where young people under the “Gen Z” movement led broad protests in September 2025 against corruption, nepotism, and elite impunity.
The demonstrations, which began as a reaction to government censorship, quickly evolved into a nationwide call for transparency and accountability.
Several Nigerians responded to Onyia’s post, echoing his criticisms of societal attitudes. User @Smartek2050 wrote: “Nigerians don’t want to dismantle oppression; they just want a better seat at the oppressor’s table — with a little ‘grace’ sprinkled on top.”
Another user, @babs_thetruth, added: “Maybe many Nigerians are waiting for their turn to oppress others. They support and glorify evil, so that no one criticizes them when unleashing their own evil.”
The comments underline growing public frustration with the way power and privilege are often celebrated in the country, rather than challenged.
Onyia, known for his outspoken views on governance and ethics, has consistently used his platform to challenge complacency and promote a culture of integrity among young Nigerians.
