Nigerians Storm National Assembly, Demand Senator Natasha’s Resumption as Senate Unseals Office

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has arrived at the National Assembly complex with her supporters as she seeks to reclaim her seat following a six-month suspension.

According to a video obtained online from @Chuks, the senator and her supporters are currently gathered at the first gate of the National Assembly.

Her return comes just hours after she appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja over an alleged defamation case involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello.

The case (FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025) is being prosecuted under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024, with prosecutors claiming she accused Akpabio of instructing Bello to orchestrate her assassination in Kogi State.

Earlier on Tuesday, the senator’s office, which had been sealed since March 6, 2025, when her suspension began, was reopened by Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director and Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly.

It is, however, unclear whether she will be allowed immediate access to the chamber, as the resumption of plenary, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed by two weeks.
