‘Nigerians Should Have Patience’ Has Been Govt’s Slogan For 40 Years Yet Citizens Face Tougher Times, Not Promised Progress — Falana

Human rights advocate Femi Falana, SAN, has criticized the government’s decades-old rhetoric of urging Nigerians to exercise patience amidst increasing hardships.

Falana emphasized the nation’s enduring struggles despite promises of brighter days, with frustration mounting over worsening conditions.

According to Falana, the government has consistently urged citizens to endure without tangible progress for over four decades.

During the interview on Channels TV, Falana added that the majority of Nigerians are disillusioned and have lost faith in successive governments due to their poor leadership.

He said, “Happily, the President did say he appreciates the sufferings of Nigerians. And that Nigerians should continue to exercise patience, this has been the language of government for over 40 years. We were always told there is light at the end of the tunnel. But instead of things getting better for the lives of our people, things are getting tougher.

“That is why the celebration of yesterday (Democracy Day on Wednesday) was by a tiny segment of the population. Political office holders. But the majority of our people who are wallowing in poverty have nothing to celebrate. Next time that we are going to celebrate June 12: Our Democracy Day, our people must be empowered, and we must start now.”
