Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Nyesom Wike, came under fire online on Saturday after a viral post by political commentator Hon. Henry Shield accused him of losing all political value following recent developments within the opposition camp.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Hon. Shield took a swipe at Wike, describing him as “the new Publicity Secretary of the APC,” arguing that the minister’s relevance in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had vanished, leaving him desperate for attention within Tinubu’s government.
“Wike seems to be the new Publicity Secretary of the APC. Dude is not taking chances at all, seeing as he has lost the PDP and has nothing else to bargain with with Tinubu. My sincere sympathies, Mr. Minister of Rolls Royce and Land Grabbing,” Shield wrote.
The post triggered a wave of reactions from users who echoed similar sentiments, many suggesting that Wike’s influence was waning and his tactics increasingly desperate.
@thatMrT commented, “Wike will start destroying APC soon. Wait for it.”
Another user, @Isayitonce, stated, “Very true. His main bargaining chip was his supposed stranglehold on PDP. With its apparent implosion, he is out in the cold. Man is in deep sh!t. That is why he is granting interviews every eke and afo market days.”

Others mocked his frequent media appearances and accused him of clinging to relevance through political theatrics. “Wike is the new minister of Rolls Royce,” said @danielchuk5605, while @kalo_nelson added, “The coalition is about to render him politically useless.”
However, not all reactions were critical. Some defended Wike, attributing his defection to the PDP’s internal betrayal. “Wike spent a lot of money in financing PDP, but when it was time for VP ticket they played him,” said @TshewM56481. “A man will love where he’s treated with love and kindness.”
The criticism comes amid growing momentum around the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which has seen defections from disillusioned PDP members. Observers suggest the emerging alliance is quietly reshaping the political landscape ahead of 2027 and weakening figures like Wike, who was once dominant within the PDP.
