Despite high-profile commissioning events led by Bola Tinubu, several bus terminals constructed under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, remain largely unused or incomplete, drawing widespread criticism online.
The projects, located in Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Area, were launched beginning in July 2024. They were intended to modernize public transportation, improve commuter safety, and generate employment.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the terminals have created more than 3,000 jobs for residents of Abuja. The Mabushi project alone reached 92% completion by early 2025, Kugbo stood at 85%, and the Central Area terminal at 50%.
Wike described the terminals as “critical infrastructure” that would help curb the “one-chance” insecurity afflicting commuters—an informal practice where passengers are vulnerable to criminals due to chaotic transport arrangements.

However, by June 2025, Tinubu officially inaugurated the Mabushi terminal, highlighting its amenities including cinemas and commercial zones, proclaiming the project as evidence that his “Renewed Hope Agenda is not a slogan.”
Despite these milestones, social media users have mocked the facilities as “white elephant projects,” noting that many remain unfinished or not yet operational. One user remarked, “Since the day they cut the ribbon, we have not seen a single bus operating from here.“
Another person on X who tweets as @BasilNdubi1968) wrote, “and Tinubu wants to replicate them on a national scale! The kind of open thievery going on these days is shameful to any sane Nigerian!”

Samuel Robert affirmed by tweeting, “Ask yourself if most of the so-called projects he commissioned in Rivers State are operational. Even the Aba/Port Harcourt road he did and was reimbursed is tearing up now… The guy na conman.”
Another social media user @diiphi commented, “Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals were built without thinking. I expect an explanation on how that Kugbo terminal is supposed to work.”
@chinem wrote, “This administration doesn’t complete what they started. They will abandon it and move to the next one. Case study, ‘Coastal road.”
“You are correct! They are not even completed. They did window dressing for Tinubu to just cut ribbon for the 2 years in office as propaganda as usual,” @RAREB tweeted.
