Nigerians are expressing widespread frustration and disbelief as the price of fuel surges to ₦1,030 per litre following the latest increase announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Parallelfacts earlier reported that fuel which previously sold for N897 in Abuja, the nation’s capital, currently sells for N1,030.
Many citizens took to social media to voice their outrage, with one individual stating, “I never believed I would buy fuel at this price,” highlighting the growing concerns over the rising cost of living and the impact on daily expenses.
While reacting on X formerly known as Twitter, @etzsylva said, “Fuel increment every two months,it’s well…Expect an increased price by December.”
Another X user, @CROWNEDCHIEF also reacted, “We Dey buy 1150 at NNPC since. So that means they will now increase it to 1250. Nothing shake us. “On your mandate we shall stand.”
@malikinetic tweeted, “This is getting out of hand oooo. We need to do something about this rubbish going on in this country. Nnpcl must be held responsible for all this rubbish happening oooo.”
“I never believed I’m going to buy fuel 1,200# per litre,” @ayobamiolu59566 said with sad emoji.
Another Nigerian who tweeted as @iiamdove wrote, “They’re just taxing us in everything we already got and some of y’all still react like it’s a joke.”
Reacting, @Unique_crisG, said,” Fuel is gradually heading to ₦2k per litre. I miss the days when fuel scarcity drove the price to ₦400 per litre but now ₦1030 is now normal. Scarcity will drive the price up 200%.”
@RealistHenry also said, “The biggest scam to ever happen here. Fuel was N591 at NNPC before Dangote rolled out his products which were supposed to be cheaper considering the no shipping and landing cost. Somehow, NNPC made it more expensive for a locally refined product. I don’t get it still.”
” What I don’t understand is why we should be paying more now that the product is being locally refined. What about the Naira for crude and Naira for PMS? Shouldn’t all these bring the prices down?” @waniago76 said.
@” There’s no sooth sayer that needs to tell you, tulumbu has the NNPC in his pockets and he’s the one controlling it, ” another Nigerian added.
However, the hike has reignited debates about the policy and the state of the economy, prompting calls for urgent action to alleviate the burden on ordinary Nigerians.
