Social Commentator, Mallam Jabir has warned that Nigeria may soon face severe hunger and food scarcity as insecurity continues to drive farmers away from cultivation.
In a tweet on X, he explained that about 80 percent of the nation’s food comes from subsistence farmers living in rural areas, but insecurity and other challenges have forced between 65 to 75 percent of them out of production.
According to him, banditry, violent attacks, and kidnappings have made farmlands inaccessible to farmers.

He added that rising costs of inputs, poor market conditions, and lack of agricultural knowledge have further worsened the situation.
Jabir also lamented the absence of adequate extension services and basic amenities in rural areas.
This, he said, has left smallholder farmers stranded and unable to contribute meaningfully to food production.
The commentator further alleged that the government was deliberately crippling agriculture through its reliance on food importation rather than empowering local farmers.
He urged Nigerians to “wake up and fight for their right,” warning that failure to address insecurity and systemic neglect in the agricultural sector would deepen the looming hunger crisis across the country.
