Otimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, asserted that Nigerians should accept the consequences of their electoral choices and not complain about the state of the nation’s economy.
Speaking on Arise TV, Mr. Amaechi stated that citizens had the opportunity to vote wisely, and whatever leadership they elected was reflective of their desires.
“Nigerians get what they want, what they deserve. You can’t complain. I think…(sic). Nigerians at all times had had opportunities to vote. Whatever you vote for is what you deserve,” he expressed during the weekend.
Although Mr. Amaechi did not explicitly mention names, there have been widespread complaints among Nigerians regarding the economic impact of President Bola Tinubu’s policies. Since assuming office, the country’s socioeconomy has faced challenges, particularly concerning the surge in foreign exchange rates, particularly the U.S. dollar.
Addressing the current economic situation under President Tinubu, the former minister suggested that Nigerians could explore opportunities abroad but emphasized that the country held numerous possibilities if its youth would tap into the available resources.
“I have always discouraged those who want to leave the country. I say 9-5? Yes, you can always get a 9-5 job when you leave the country, but you can never get the opportunity you get in Nigeria. You can just wake up one day and become a minister in Nigeria. You can just wake up one day, and you become a governor. It just happens; I don’t know how the country operates,” shared the former governor.
Highlighting insecurity and the lack of employment opportunities as factors pushing citizens to seek opportunities abroad, Mr. Amaechi emphasized that only the government could address these challenges.
“So if you’re looking for opportunities, please stay in Nigeria,” Mr. Amaechi concluded.
