Amid Widespread Insecurity, Nigeria’s Defence Chief Urges Army Generals to Participate in Politics

The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has expressed his commitment to integrating more retired armed forces officers into governance.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna following a pulling-out dinner hosted by the Infantry Corps to honor retired infantry generals, Mr. Musa emphasized the significance of leveraging the experiences of retired generals in operational and strategic training for national benefit.

He emphasized the value these seasoned individuals could bring to governance, highlighting their potential to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

“The nation has spent so much in training them. Such vast knowledge should not just go like that. We want these top military men to continue to contribute their own quota to the development of the nation,” he said.

The defence chief noted that some retired generals had served the Nigerian Army for 35 years, with some going beyond that number.

“It means they have accumulated experiences that we cannot afford to do away with.

“They are still strong, capable and ready. We need them to contribute so much to the nation,” the defence chief added.
