A trailer and a truck collided on the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway on Saturday, leaving nine passengers with varying degrees of burns. Four others escaped unhurt from the accident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. at Sekona area.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday. The sector commander in the state, Joshua Adekanye, said the truck caught fire while the trailer rammed into it. He said the cause of the fire was unknown, but suspected that speeding and wrongful overtaking might have led to the collision.
The FRSC said the burnt victims were referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment. The agency also said it conducted a rescue operation with the help of the Fire Service and Odo-Oba Police Division.
