The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have jointly announced the suspension of the indefinite strike action in Niger State.

The decision was made after an emergency State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at Labour House Minna on Wednesday night, following extensive discussions with Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and key government officials.

The state government, in an effort to address the demands of Organised Labour, presented proposals during the discussions.

Subsequently, the NLC and TUC SEC unanimously agreed that the progress made was sufficient to warrant the suspension of the strike, with ongoing discussions anticipated.

The motion to suspend the strike was proposed by the Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Isah Mahmoud, and seconded by the Chairman of NAAT, IBBUL, Dr Hamzat Aliyu.

As a result of this decision, all workers have been instructed to resume work on Thursday.

According to the agreement reached between the Niger State Government and Organised Labour, the Bago administration will implement a wage award in March, providing N20,000 each to workers in the state and local government areas.

Moreover, a tripartite committee, consisting of representatives from the Niger House of Assembly, the Executive, and Organised Labour, will be established to review existing laws and offer recommendations to the government.
