Nnamdi Kanu’s Fate To Be Decided By The Supreme Court Tomorrow

The Supreme Court is set to deliver a decisive verdict tomorrow on the appeal demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

A five-member panel, spearheaded by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will determine the course of Kanu’s future.

Following the Court of Appeal Abuja’s landmark ruling on October 13, 2022, ordering Kanu’s release, the legal battlefield shifted to the Supreme Court. Mike Ozehkome, leading Kanu’s legal team, fervently urged the apex court to not only secure his client’s immediate release but also impose substantial costs on the Federal Government.

Tijani Gazzali, representing the government, countered, pleading with the court to overturn the Court of Appeal’s judgment and reinstate Kanu’s trial on terrorism-related charges. The complexity of the case arises from Kanu’s alleged illegal transfer from Kenya to Nigeria, as highlighted in the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

As the legal wrangling continues, Kanu’s defiant stance is echoed through his legal representatives. The Court of Appeal’s decision deemed his initial arrest as an “abduction” and the subsequent treatment as “illegal.” Kanu, who faces accusations related to Radio Biafra and stoking ethnic tensions, has become a symbol of resistance against the Nigerian government’s actions. #Nnamdi Kanu
