As Usual, NNPCL Announces September as Fresh Date for Commencement of Port Harcourt Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has set a new date for the commercial launch of the Port Harcourt Refinery, with operations now scheduled to begin in September 2024.

Umar Ajiya, the Chief Financial Officer of NNPCL, made the announcement on Monday during a press briefing in Abuja.

Ajiya stated that petroleum products from the refinery will undergo testing before being distributed to the domestic market in September.

This September start date is the latest in a series of rescheduled launch dates for the refinery. In July, NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, had announced an August commencement.

Prior to that, the company had initially targeted March and July 2024 for the refinery’s start, following its mechanical completion in December last year.

The Port Harcourt Refinery, which has a combined capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, has been undergoing rehabilitation.
