New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) finds itself embroiled in a deepening crisis, as a splinter group distances itself from recent protests in Kano, calling for security agencies to target supporters of the party leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The group led by Dr. Major Agbo insists that the NNPP loyal to Kwankwaso is violating the party’s principles, asserting, “violence and killing are not part of the NNPP manifesto.” Major Agbo’s faction further urges a thorough investigation into Dipo Johnson, Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, alleging he is inciting protests without legitimate NNPP membership.
In a retaliatory stance, the New Nigeria Peoples Party loyal to Kwankwaso fires back, contending that Major Agbo’s group has been expelled from the party and lacks authority to speak on NNPP matters.
The faction accuses the Agbo-led members of being hired to tarnish the image of Abba Kabir Yusuf and Kwankwaso, asserting the governor’s bona fide membership in New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Despite internal strife, the New Nigeria Peoples Party National Working Committee, under acting national chairman Abba Kawu Ali, remains steadfast, expressing confidence in the Supreme Court.
Ladipo Johnson, speaking on behalf of the committee, dismisses allegations against Yusuf and Kwankwaso as “totally false and inaccurate,” urging Nigerians to ignore what they label as misinformation by “enemies of the Nigerian electorate.”
