Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims of a plot to impeach him, describing the reports as “total fake news.”
The allegations stemmed from an online platform suggesting that the Department of State Services (DSS) had taken control of the National Assembly to prevent his impeachment.
During a plenary session on Wednesday, Akpabio addressed the rumors, stating, “They said DSS has surrounded the National Assembly to possibly stop the impeachment of principal officers.
“There is no limit to what social media can do. we are sitting down here doing our work peacefully oblivious of the mischief.
“Which committee do we refer this to? I understand that they are being paid if they have a lot of traffic, but I hope the public is aware that this is total fake news,” he added.
In response, Akpabio referred the matter to the special duties committee for investigation, requesting a report as soon as possible.
