Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced his intention to contest for the gubernatorial election in the state.
Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following the passing of his predecessor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, expressed his decision to run for office in compliance with the country’s constitution.
“I will be running because I am already a sitting governor, and let me make it clear, nobody wants to be governor for just one year.
“Come on! Allow me to exercise my constitutional right. At least, let me have the opportunity to run for one more time,” he stated during a television interview over the weekend.
Aiyedatiwa assumed the role of state governor on December 27, 2023, following Akeredolu’s demise due to prostate cancer treatment at a German hospital. As the former deputy to Akeredolu, he was promptly sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state, Olusegun Odunsola, to complete the remaining term in office.

Reportedly, Aiyedatiwa’s decision to vie for the gubernatorial position comes ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state scheduled for April. Apart from Aiyedatiwa, more than 15 aspirants within the ruling party have expressed interest in competing for the gubernatorial ticket.
