If I were 230million Nigerians, Nobody Who Campaigned For Tinubu Would Ever Make a Single Sale — Eric Gugua Reacts as Bimbo Akintola Admits She Voted Tinubu “Out of Spite”

Social media commentator Eric Gugua has ignited a firestorm online, declaring that supporters of Bola Tinubu who openly campaigned for him should face total economic boycott, following veteran actress Bimbo Akintola’s revelation that she voted for the president partly “out of spite.

In a viral tweet that has rapidly climbed past 2 million views, Gugua wrote:
“If I were 230 million Nigerians, nobody who campaigned for Tinubu would ever make a single sale of anything in this country again.

Bimbo Akintola just admitted she voted Tinubu because some people bullied her online. This is the level of immaturity we have in this country. People are dying.

”The explosive statement came in response to a widely circulated clip from Akintola’s appearance on Chude Jideonwo’s “WithChude” podcast, where the Nollywood star admitted she initially supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 election but switched to Tinubu after enduring severe online harassment from some Obi supporters.

“They bullied me so much that I said, ‘Okay, let me just vote the other person,’” Akintola recounted.

Gugua’s call for a nationwide economic blackout against Tinubu supporters quickly became one of the top trending topics on X in Nigeria, with thousands quoting and amplifying his message.

Many users echoed his sentiment, listing celebrities and influencers who publicly backed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and vowing never to patronize their businesses again.

Others pushed back, accusing Gugua of promoting witch-hunting and division, while some defended Akintola’s right to vote based on personal experiences, regardless of outcome.

As the backlash intensifies, Bimbo Akintola has remained silent on social media.

Meanwhile, the controversy has reopened raw wounds from the bitterly divided 2023 presidential election, with many Nigerians expressing frustration that personal grievances appear to have influenced decisions now linked to widespread economic hardship and insecurity.

Eric Gugua’s tweet has evolved into a rallying cry for some, and a warning shot to public figures who supported the current administration: in a country where survival is increasingly difficult, political choices may come with lasting consequences.
