The human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu has declared her opinion of every citizens being entitled to the right to protest on any issue and as such no one has the right to tell the youths of today how to go about the planned protest.
Aisha’s outburst is coming following a post by the Nigerian journalist, Dele Momodu on his X handle on Wednesday. He wrote, “I have 46 years experience in protests, since 1978 at the University of Ife. There’s nothing riskier for a nation than faceless people or a mob leading protests.
“It is the right of everyone to protest but not the right of anyone to cause mayhem… And government has the right to protect lives and properties.”
However, his comment didn’t go down well with Aisha Yesufu as she took to her X handle on Thursday and wrote, “Nobody has monopoly of protest and nobody has to be the face of a protest.
“Every citizen whether known or unknown has the right to protest and whatever issue they feel aggrieved about.

“Anyone who has protested in Nigeria knows that it is the Nigerian government that unleashes violence on peaceful protesters.
She continued, “Your 1978 is another person’s 2024. You have done yours, let them do theirs.
“I am part of the older generation and I do not think we have any moral justification to tell the youth of today how to protest.
” If the protests we did worked, will they need to still be on the streets demanding for good governance?,”she queried.
