North Must Prepare for Possible Separation—Prof. Lugga

Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazirin Katsina, has called on the northern region to unite and prepare for self-determination, much like their southern counterparts.

Speaking at a community engagement event organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Katsina, Lugga emphasized the need for northerners to brace for the possibility of separation from Nigeria, given the growing calls for secession from the South.

He expressed concern over the North’s lack of unity in defending its interests, contrasting this with the determination of groups such as the Biafrans.

Lugga urged the North to learn from the proactive steps taken by southern states, especially in handling security challenges.

He pointed out that despite facing less severe security issues, the South has established regional security outfits like Amotekun, while the North remains largely passive.

Drawing on historical concerns, Lugga referenced the reservations of early Nigerian leaders regarding the amalgamation of the North and South, a union he described as still fragile.

He warned that if the South were to successfully secede, the North might struggle to adapt without adequate preparation.

Jamilu Charanchi, the National Coordinator of CNG, also stressed the importance of grassroots action to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and security crises.

He criticized the nation’s leadership for focusing on elections rather than the country’s future, urging communities to take charge of their destiny through collective efforts.
