Northern Elders Forum Slams Tinubu for Anti-North Policies, Threatens to Vote Him Out in 2027

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed its dissatisfaction with Bola Tinubu’s policies, which it claims have worsened the economic and social conditions of the northern region.

The NEF’s spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said that the forum was opposed to the recent decision by the federal government to relocate some key departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos, the president’s home state.

Suleiman said that the move was a sign of Tinubu’s disregard for the interests of the North, the unity and security of Nigeria, and the welfare of all citizens.

He said that the NEF was not biased or partisan, but rather committed to speaking truth to power and holding leaders accountable.

“We are not a forum that whitewashes or smears any administration, including that of Tinubu. We have established a standard of judgment that we will not compromise, which is characterized by being respectful and responsible in our relationships with leaders at all levels and speaking truth to power,” Suleiman said in an interview with Saturday Sun.

He added that the president’s policies have had negative impacts on the North, such as increasing poverty, inflation, unemployment, business failure, and infrastructure decay.

“It is our duty to remind President Tinubu that his policies, many of which appear to further impoverish the North while enriching other parts of the country, have resulted in hunger stalking millions of homes. Inflation is making life increasingly difficult, people are losing their jobs, businesses are closing down, and infrastructure is decaying,” he said.

Suleiman urged Tinubu to acknowledge the problems facing the North and take corrective measures to ensure a more balanced and equitable development of the country.

He also warned that the NEF would not support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 if he continued to ignore the concerns of the North and favor his own region.

He said that the NEF would consider Tinubu’s record of federal appointments, resource allocation, and policy implementation when making its decision.
