USIP: Northern Governors Travel to US to Discuss Insecurity

Governor Abba Yusuf has landed in the U.S. to attend a prestigious symposium hosted by the U.S. Institute of Peace, as announced by Sunusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, in a statement released on Wednesday.

Joining him are governors from Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Plateau, who will participate in the three-day symposium.

The primary focus of the event, as outlined in the statement, is to tackle the issue of insecurity in northern Nigeria and devise effective solutions.

The statement highlights the symposium’s aim to provide a platform for in-depth discussions on the socioeconomic factors contributing to insecurity and explore immediate opportunities for fostering stability in the region.

Moreover, it emphasizes the role of non-violent strategies in strengthening conflict prevention, with experts from the institute offering valuable insights.

Under the guidance of Joseph Sany, Vice President of the Africa Centre at the institute, the symposium will delve into policy coordination and the management of peace and stability in Nigeria.

Scheduled to conclude on April 25, the symposium underscores the ongoing commitment of northern governors, particularly those from the North-West, to shaping a comprehensive regional development agenda.
