Northern Lawyers to Sue FG, Demands Justice, Compensation for Victims of Kaduna Killings

A lawyers’ forum from the North has declared its intent to file a legal suit against the Federal Government, demanding just compensation for the victims of the military airstrikes in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State.

The tragic incident occurred during the celebration of Maulud, resulting in the loss of over 120 lives.

Barrister Nafi’u Abubakar, representing the lawyers’ forum, emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for the families who suffered irreparable losses due to the unfortunate incident. Addressing the media in Kaduna on Saturday, Nafi’u urged the Federal Government to promptly initiate a thorough and independent investigation into the matter.

“It is crucial that those responsible are held accountable, and preventive measures are implemented to avert similar incidents in the future,” he stated. Nafi’u also called upon the Nigerian Army to reassess its rules of engagement and training procedures to minimize the risk of civilian casualties during military operations.

Expressing condolences to the affected families, the forum, comprising over 600 members, pledged unwavering support in pursuing justice.

Nafi’u affirmed, “The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum will tirelessly employ legal avenues to secure the compensation rightfully owed to the victims.”
