The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Katsina United for using paper to display a player’s name and number during their match against Sporting Lagos on Sunday.

According to reports, a Katsina United player donned a shirt that was numbered inappropriately using a paper and a pen. As a result, the NPFL has sanctioned the team and is filing a report with the NFF for the match officials’ negligence in permitting the player onto the field during the game.

A fine of one million naira (N1,000,000:00) has been imposed on Katsina United for this infraction and the league has also banned the club’s Kits Manager, Masudu Lawal, from all NPFL activities for one year for improper conduct or his role in the kits debacle.

The sanction is the first of its kind in the 2023/24 season and is expected to serve as a deterrent to other clubs that may be tempted to flout the rules of the league.
