NRC Denies Train Theft Reports

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has come out to deny reports of attempted stolen train coaches said to have been thwarted by Borno State police command on Saturday.

The theft of a few train coaches owned by the NRC was stopped, according to a previous notification from the Borno State Police Command. The corporation, however, denied this assertion, claiming that none of its coaches had ever been taken.

The corporation issued a statement outlining the situation. He declared that the aforementioned coaches had been relocated formally to the NRC Running Shed in Jos, Plateau State, where they would be repaired and placed back into service.

However, the NRC has come out to debunk the news, insisting that there was no attempt at theft. Fidel Okhira, the NRC’s managing director, issued a statement on Saturday. The statement read: “The attention of the Nigerian Railway Corporation has been drawn to a news trending on numerous social media platforms purported to have emanated from the Nigerian Television Authority, in which it was reported that an attempt was made to steal NRC coaches from Maiduguri.

“NRC management wishes to clarify this erroneous reportage by stating that the said coaches are officially being moved to NRC Running Shed Jos, Plateau State, to be overhauled and put back into operation. NRC is trying to extend rail mass transit all over the country.”
