The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the apprehension of 46 individuals believed to be involved in terrorism within the Gwagwalada area council.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the FCT commandant, Olusola Odumosu, disclosed that 42 male suspects were intercepted while en route from Zamfara, while four others were found in possession of stolen armored cables.

“Because of their number, my men had to seek the intervention of the army to aid in the successful arrest of the suspects. We suspect they are fleeing the ongoing onslaught of the military operation in Zamfara, as they all claimed to have migrated from the state,” he said.

Mr. Odumosu stated that following interrogation, the suspects asserted they were en route to a mining site when they were intercepted.

“In the course of interrogation, NSCDC were unable to disclose the mining site and company name they alleged to be working for. At the time of interception, they had no evidence to show they were going on mining activities which suggested they had a sinister motive.

“They were in possession of their personal belongings and some other weapon,” he said.

The commandant noted that the suspects have been cooperative with the corps during its investigation. Additionally, Mr. Odumosu disclosed that operatives apprehended Bartholomew Anthony, a 27-year-old vigilante, in the Mabushi area of the FCT.

Anthony was found in possession of stolen armored cables, a hacksaw, jackknife, handset, and N20,000 in cash.

He provided valuable information that led to the arrest of his three accomplices.

The commander stated that the suspect purportedly abused his membership in a private security outfit to carry out criminal activities.

Furthermore, the commander assured FCT residents of the corps’ commitment to safeguarding the area from criminal elements.

He urged the public to report any suspicious individuals, promising to maintain the confidentiality of informants, stressing that security concerns everyone. #NSCDC
