The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has rebutted claims circulating on social media regarding a corps member being assigned to the Amotekun Corps for their mandatory one-year program.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Ms. Christy Olatoye, the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC in Oyo State, it was clarified that Amotekun was not listed among the employers in the NYSC database.
Olatoye emphasized the respected status of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as “Amotekun.” However, she stressed that the NYSC in Oyo State did not issue any posting letter for deployment to Amotekun.
“It is the policy of the National Youth Service Corps to assign corps members where their services would be relevant and effectively utilized. Although the Amotekun Corps is esteemed in its line of duty, it is not part of our recognized employers,” Olatoye stated.
She cautioned against spreading misinformation that could tarnish the reputation of the NYSC, emphasizing its noble contributions to the nation over the past five decades.

“The NYSC is an esteemed institution with a long-standing history of notable achievements. It should not be subjected to prank or misrepresentation,” she added.
The statement aimed to quash the spreading rumors and misinterpretations surrounding the purported posting of a corps member to Amotekun, urging the public to verify information before disseminating it.
The NYSC reiterated its commitment to posting corps members to establishments where their skills and services are most needed, in alignment with its mandate of national service and youth development.
The clarification comes amidst growing concerns and speculations regarding the deployment of corps members to security outfits like Amotekun, which operates as a regional security initiative in the southwestern part of Nigeria.
