NYSC Expresses Concern Over Rejection of Corps Members in North-East

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has raised concerns over the increasing trend of corps members being rejected by employers in the North-East region of Nigeria. The NYSC Director in Charge of the Zone, Mr. Garinvwa Ishaya, voiced this concern at a one-day Corps Employers’ Forum held on Monday in Yola, Adamawa State. He noted that the rejection of corps members by employers is discouraging and undermines the objectives of the scheme.

Mr Garinvwa Ishaya, the NYSC Director for the North-East Zone, urged employers to provide adequate welfare and security for corps members. He made this appeal at a one-day Corps Employers’ Forum, held on Monday in Yola, with the theme “Deepening Corps Employers Participation towards Improved Welfare and Security of Corps Members”.

He expressed concern over the rejection of corps members by some employers, saying that this was detrimental to the corps members and the scheme. He said the scheme was established to enhance the socio-economic development and unity of the nation and called on employers to create conducive environments for corps members to contribute their skills and talents.

He also asked state governments to provide decent accommodation for the corps members and solicited the support of local council chairmen in promoting the objectives of the scheme. The NYSC North-East zonal office oversees Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno states. (NAN)
