The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria (GCSDN) has urged Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu of Lagos to apologize to Igbos over tribal bigotry.
The group accused the monarch of delivering hate speeches, including a threat to kill Igbos residing in Lagos State if they did not vote for a specific gubernatorial candidate.
They argued that such statements foster tribal divisions and are contrary to Nigeria’s national motto and constitution, which stress unity amidst ethnic and tribal diversity.
A statement on Monday by the group’s Global Coordinator, Comrade Frederick Odorige, stated that tribal bigotry is fast destroying the fabrics of Nigeria as a country.
A regrettable development, they said, was being projected mostly from Lagos state which is against the motto and constitution of the country.

“If the renewed national anthem which enjoins us to work towards national unity though `tongue and tribe may differ` must make sense, tribal bigotry must be completely expunged.
“The utterances of the highly respected Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osualale Aremu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, has made him to become the progenitor of tribal bigotry since the 2015 governorship election campaign in Lagos state,” the group stated.
Pointing to his longstanding history of hate speeches, which have intensified recently, the organization claimed that the monarch threatened to kill Igbos residing in Lagos if they did not vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.
