Obi Condemns Rape, Killing of 22-Year-Old Adekolure Glory, Urges Security Agencies to Bring Perpetrators to Book

Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has condemned the brutal rape and murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a 22-year-old Nigerian woman. In a statement posted on his official Twitter handle, Obi expressed his horror and grief over the tragic incident and called on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Adekolure, a recent graduate, was attacked by unidentified criminals when she returned to her school for final clearance. Her beaten, raped, and lifeless body was discovered near her family’s home in Iyowa community, Benin, Edo State. The brutal nature of her death has sent shockwaves through the community and the country.

Obi emphasized the urgent need for society to raise its voice against such heinous crimes. “It is very painful that crimes and violence have not only continued to multiply in our society, but have taken a new dimension of fatal sexual assault on our women,” he said. “We must all raise our voices in condemning this ugly development in our society. Insecurity, crime, and violence, in any form, must not be allowed to be fostered.”

Coincidentally, Obi’s statement came on the same day the global community observed the International Day Against Sexual Violence in Conflict. This day aims to stand against all forms of sexual assault and ensure offenders are held accountable. Obi urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate Adekolure’s killing and bring those responsible to justice.

“We must continue to work towards building a safe and secure society for all,” Obi stated, highlighting the importance of law enforcement in addressing such crimes. “I urge the security agencies to investigate the killing of this young lady and ensure that those behind the dastardly act face the law.”

Obi extended his condolences to the bereaved family, praying for them to find the strength to cope with their loss. “May God grant eternal rest to Adekolure Idowu Glory and grant her family the fortitude to bear this sad loss,” he said.
