Peter Obi Expresses Condolences Over Tragic Accident Involving Tijani Babangida, Family

Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident involving Tijani Babangida, the gold medalist from the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, and his wife.

The accident sadly claimed the life of Tijani Babangida’s younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida, also a professional footballer, and left Tijani and his wife hospitalized.

In a post on his X handle, Peter Obi conveyed his solidarity and prayers for the Babangida family during this challenging time.

His words: “I have read the saddening reports of the fatal accident that left the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games gold medallist and President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, Tijani Babangida, and his wife, hospitalized.

“The accident unfortunately also claimed the life of his younger brother and professional footballer, Ibrahim Babangida. We remain united in prayers with the entire Babangida family in this difficult moment.

“May God grant them and all of us the fortitude to bear the sad and irreplaceable loss of their illustrious loved one, and grant divine healing to the hospitalized. May God Almighty forgive Ibrahim Babangida for his sins and grant him eternal rest,” Obi concluded.
