The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has received recognition as a champion of Nigerian democracy.
The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) bestowed the honour on him at its recent National Convention held in Abuja.
Unable to attend himself, Obi delegated Peter Ameh, National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), to receive the award on his behalf.
In his acceptance speech, Ameh highlighted the qualities Nigerians saw in Obi during the 2023 elections: sincerity and integrity.
He further emphasized Obi’s stance against excessive government spending, which Ameh believes contributes heavily to Nigeria’s current challenges, including the high cost of living and national insecurity.
COPDEM, an independent political advocacy group, presented the award in recognition of individuals whose unwavering commitment strengthens the hope for a greater Nigeria.
The organization was formed by Nigerians driven by the desire to actively contribute to the nation’s development.
