Obi, Soludo, Ngige Pay Last Respects to Ezeife, Obiano Absent

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, alongside other political figures including Dr Chris Ngige and the current governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, gathered today in Awka to honour the late Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Okwadike Igboukwu, the First Civilian Governor of New Anambra State.

The solemn occasion marked the State Commendation and Thanksgiving Service for Chief Ezeife, who was hailed as an exceptional patriot and father figure to many. Speaking at the funeral, Mr Peter Obi shared his heartfelt sentiments, describing Chief Ezeife as a champion of justice and a unifying force in Nigeria.

“His death remains a huge loss to the nation,” remarked Mr. Obi. “He was a man who preached justice, lived it out, and always fought for it. He was committed to a fair and just Nigeria, where every individual will be treated fairly.”

Chief Ezeife’s legacy as a detribalized Nigerian who advocated for the progress and development of the nation was highlighted during the service. Mr. Obi fondly recalled the sage advice and encouragement he received from Chief Ezeife during his lifetime.

“I still cherish his fatherly words of wisdom and guidance,” Mr. Obi expressed. “Such fatherly advice and encouragement are needed in our nation now more than ever, with the many challenges facing us.”

The former governor concluded his tribute with a prayer for Chief Ezeife’s eternal rest and for strength for his family and the nation in coping with the loss.

“May God Almighty who called him home grant him eternal rest,” Mr. Obi prayed, “and grant his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss. May God continue to protect and bless his family always.”

The gathering of prominent figures from Anambra State, including former and current governors, underscored the significance of Chief Ezeife’s contributions to the state and the nation as a whole. The presence of political leaders paying their respects reflected the widespread impact of Chief Ezeife’s life and work, although prominently missing at the event was the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.

The State Commendation and Thanksgiving Service served as a poignant reminder of Chief Ezeife’s enduring legacy and the values he stood for throughout his life. As mourners bid farewell to a beloved leader, they pledged to carry forward his vision of a fair and just Nigeria for generations to come.
