Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has renewed his call for deliberate investment in education and healthcare as key drivers of national progress.
Obi made the remarks on Friday after visiting the College of Nursing Sciences, Amichi, and the Immaculate Girls Model Secondary School, Nnewi, where he met with students and teachers.
He noted that the school’s only bus was the one he donated during his tenure as governor about 12 years ago, which is now no longer fully functional.
Obi said the school also requested new laptops and a replacement for the old bus to aid teaching and learning.

“They noted that the only school bus they have is the one I donated as Governor, and it is no longer fully functional after about 12 years of use. They requested a new school bus, as well as more laptops. I assured them of my continued support in providing the necessary tools and facilities to enhance their effective learning,” he stated.
Obi later visited St. Felix Hospital, Nnewi, after receiving an appeal from the management for urgent support to sustain their operations. He announced a ₦5 million donation to the hospital and pledged to continue assisting them.
“Thereafter, in continuation of strengthening our healthcare system, I visited St. Felix Hospital, Nnewi, after receiving their request a few days ago for my assistance on an urgent need for the hospital. I gave my support of ₦5 million to support their operations and promised to continue my support to them and their facility,” Obi said.
He emphasised that meaningful national progress would remain impossible without deliberate investment in human capital through education and healthcare.
“For our nation to make progress, we must deliberately invest in education and health, the most critical foundations for a developed nation and human capital development,” he noted.
Obi reaffirmed his personal commitment to supporting institutions and individuals working to improve these sectors.
“I remain committed to contributing my part, no matter how small, to building a Nigeria where every child can learn and every citizen can access quality healthcare,” he said.
He ended his statement with his familiar message of optimism, writing, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
Photos from his visit showed Obi interacting with students, teachers, and hospital staff during the tour.
Observers say Obi’s actions once again highlight his consistent contrast with Bola Tinubu’s administration, which has faced widespread criticism for neglecting education and health infrastructure across the country.
