Ibadan Explosion: Peter Obi Visits, Commiserates with Oyo Gov, Makinde

The Former Governor of Anambra State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi visited Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, to offer condolences regarding the recent Ibadan explosion.

Accompanying Obi to the closed-door session is the political activist Aisha Yesufu and Dele Rotimi.

The governor, he explained that the explosion was a result of illegal miners storing explosives in an inappropriate location, prompting corrective measures to address the identified lapses.

Governor Makinde acknowledged that both Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi reached out to him, expressing their concerns. However, he pointedly noted the absence of communication from his own party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

In his words “Peter Obi came here to commensurate with us over the explosion. Though investigations are still going on. It was simply illegal miners storing explosives in an environment where they shouldn’t be. So, all the lapses that allow such to happen have been addressed.

“Three musketeers contested the last presidential election. Tinubu has reached out to me; you (Peter Obi) has reached out to me. But my own party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, not even a call or text message. I’m saying this openly for our leader to know there’s a time for politics and time for humanity,” He said.
