The former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has criticised what he described as a growing pattern of unjustified attacks on Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by senior government officials.
In a post shared on his official X account, Amadi expressed concern over the trend, noting that while members of the current administration continue to target Obi, the former Anambra State governor remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
Amadi pointed to recent criticisms from the Presidency, the Governor of Lagos State, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio as examples of what he called misplaced priorities.

He noted that instead of engaging with the substance of Obi’s comments, political figures have responded with personal attacks.
Obi had recently remarked that the “labour of our heroes past has gone in vain,” reflecting on the state of the nation.
The comment drew sharp criticism from Senate President Akpabio, who accused Obi of dishonouring the legacy of Nigeria’s founding fathers. The Lagos State Governor and the Presidency also dismissed his remarks and proposals on governance and economic reform.

Amadi defended Obi’s approach, stating that the former presidential candidate has avoided personal attacks and instead focused on promoting national renewal through prudence, accountability, and economic reform.
“If elections were a purely rational exercise, Peter Obi is so far the only candidate who ought to be elected,” Amadi added.
