The Obidient Movement has expressed utter dismay over recent developments in the Nigerian Senate, where Senator Natasha Akpoti—representing Kogi Central Senatorial District—accused Senate President Senator to Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
The movement’s statement comes amid mounting concerns over gender inclusivity in a Senate that currently has only four female senators.
In a statement released, Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communications and Media for the Obidient Movement, emphasized the pervasive impact of sexual harassment.
“We commend Senator Akpoti for speaking up not only for herself but for all Nigerian women,” Kazaure said, stressing that such allegations highlight a broader issue that undermines dignity, safety, and well-being in the workplace.
Kazaure also called for an impartial and transparent investigation into the allegations, noting that accountability is essential for restoring public confidence.

“The committee set up to investigate these grievous allegations must conduct its work thoroughly so that justice is not only done but manifestly seen to have been done,” Nana added, urging all well-meaning Nigerians to support the call for a fair probe.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on sexual discrimination and gender bias, the Obidient Movement stressed that the Senate should lead by example in fostering a culture of respect and equality.
The organization insists that the nation’s highest legislative body must work to create an environment where every member is protected and empowered, setting the standard for gender inclusivity in Nigeria.
