The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has announced that the movement may explore new options if the Labour Party (LP) fails to prioritize good governance and accountability.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Tuesday in Abuja, Tanko emphasized that the Obidient Movement, which initially supported the Labour Party and its presidential candidate Peter Obi, has grown beyond the confines of the party.
Tanko expressed concerns over perceived internal challenges within the Labour Party that impacted the 2023 general elections, notably the absence of party structures in 1,760 polling units.
He outlined the movement’s plans to address these gaps by establishing a broader foundation across all polling units, ensuring their objectives align with good governance principles.
He stated, “The Obedient Movement is bigger than the Labour Party. We have them everywhere, academicians, traders, some members of other political parties.
“When it becomes inevitable that the Labour Party is not ready to assimilate the idea of good governance; we will have to look for another opportunity.
“During the 2023 general elections, we were accused, rightly so, that we do not have structures in all of the polling units.

“We are getting prepared and we are ready to face the challenges,” he added
He further addressed Nigerians’ disappointment over the performance of Labour Party lawmakers, suggesting the Obidient Movement would work to build a stronger organizational structure to respond to public expectations.
