VIDEO: October 1st: Protesters Chant Tinubu Ole, Tinubu Na Goat! as They March to Ojota

Thousands of Nigerians are expected to gather in cities across the country on Tuesday in protest against what they describe as the harmful policies and programs of Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary on October 1, the protesters have dubbed the event a “National Day of Survival,” highlighting the economic hardships millions of Nigerians are facing.

This demonstration serves as a direct challenge to the ongoing situation.

In light of the rising cost of living and a struggling economy, Tinubu has called for a subdued celebration of Independence Day.

The October 1 protest follows a series of #EndBadGovernance demonstrations that took place across several states in August.

These 10-day protests called for an end to poor governance and escalating living costs. In response, the government arrested several protesters, charging at least 10 with treason.

The protest movements include the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), Movement for Fundamental Change (MFC), Joint Action Front (JAF), Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB), and the Yoruba Revolutionary Movement (YOREM), among others.

Lagos protesters are moving to Freedom Park as they chant the words “Tinubu Ole, Tinubu na Goat, omo Eran” as captured in a viral video below.

So far, the protesters have maintained calmness in expressing their displeasure in the state of the nation. Meanwhile, the security operatives present have been guiding protesters.

Additional groups, such as the Coalition for Concerned Nigerian Citizens (CCNC), Initiative for a Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN), Movement for African Emancipation (MAE), Pan-African Consciousness Renaissance (PACOR-Nigeria), and the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), are also participating.

In response to the planned protests, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered heightened security nationwide.

The Defence Headquarters announced on Monday that troops are on alert to assist the police in maintaining order during the protests.
