Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has given a three-day ultimatum to demolish the Sagamu residence and luxury hotel of former Ogun State governor and serving senator, Gbenga Daniel — a move that deepens the political rift between both men ahead of the 2027 elections.
Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the Senate, shares the same political turf with Abiodun, who is rumoured to be eyeing a Senate seat in 2027.
According to Peoples Gazette, an insider disclosed the rivalry has split the state’s ruling APC, with Abiodun allegedly seeking to edge Daniel out to secure his ticket.

On Friday, August 8, the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority served a Notice of Contravention and a Notice to Quit on Daniel’s Asoludero Court residence and the nearby Conference Hotel.

The agency cited a 2022 urban planning law, claiming the buildings lacked permits and proper setbacks, even though they were completed in 2004. The notices ordered occupants to vacate and remove “contraventions” within three days or face demolition.
Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, dismissed the claims as politically motivated, noting that all necessary permits were obtained when the former governor built the properties.
He accused the government of timing the ultimatum to expire over a weekend when offices are closed.
The move follows a 2023 incident in which the state demolished a property belonging to Daniel’s wife, despite a later court victory in her favour.
