Ogun State Security Corps Mistakenly Kills Kidnapped Pastor

On Monday, the Ogun State Government-owned So-Safe Corps admitted that they had accidentally killed a pastor, Adeniyi Adisa, who was kidnapped by a gang of armed robbers on June 24. The incident occurred on July 1, when the security officers were pursuing the kidnappers who had earlier attacked a church and abducted seven worshippers.

According to the Commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, his officers responded to a distress call at Abule-Ori community in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, where some gunmen had stormed a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and killed a pastor. The officers were able to rescue the seven church members and engaged in a shoot-out with the kidnappers, killing one of them.

However, it was later discovered that the person killed was not a kidnapper, but Pastor Adeniyi Adisa of Latter Rain Revival Christian Church, Olaogun, Ibadan, Oyo State. He had been kidnapped by the same gang of hoodlums on June 24 while returning from a visit to a friend in Yotomi area, Owode Egba in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The kidnappers had probably brought him along to be freed after collecting the ransom before going for their next operation, but there was a delay that led to the tragic outcome.

Ganzallo expressed his regret and sorrow over the unfortunate situation, saying that none of them was happy about it. He said that the Ogun State Police Command had investigated the case and confirmed that Pastor Adeniyi Adisa was a kidnapped victim too and he was never a kidnapper. He said that the police was also preparing a report on the sad incident that would be given to the family.

He also said that the So-Safe Corps was working closely with the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun to give compensation to support the children of the deceased pastor. He commiserated with the family on their loss and prayed for the soul of the departed to rest in peace.

Ganzallo cleared the air while addressing newsmen on the controversy at the Corps’ head office in Abeokuta, alongside the two wives of the slain Pastor, Mrs Temilade Adisa, Mrs Bukola Adisa; their two children, Mr Adeyemi Adisa, Mrs Adewunmi Adelaja and a maternal cousin to the deceased who also led the family delegation, Chief Muiz Adegboyega Akande.
