Ohanaeze Youths Condemn Assassination Threat Against Peter Obi, Urge Tinubu to Caution Edo Gov

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has strongly condemned recent comments made by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, labelling them as a veiled “assassination threat” against Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Governor Okpebholo had reportedly warned that Obi must not enter Edo State without his approval and prior security clearance—a statement that has sparked widespread backlash after surfacing in a viral video.

In a response issued on Saturday, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the governor’s remarks as dangerous, undemocratic, and completely unbecoming of a public officeholder.

“This is not just an uncouth and shocking remark from a sitting governor—it amounts to an assassination threat on Mr. Peter Obi,” the group said.

The Ohanaeze youth urged Bola Tinubu to immediately call the Edo governor to order and ensure that no harm comes to Obi in any part of the country.
